History

Federal Express was founded in 1971 by Frederick W. Smith. Its first fleet consisted of 11 and then 33 Dassault Aviation Falcon 20s adapted to the transport of goods with an additional cargo door. These aircraft were replaced in 1982 by Boeing 727s and McDonnell Douglas DC-10s.

The first air deliveries began on April 27, 1973, from Memphis International Airport, where the company established its hub. In 1994, Federal Express became FedEx.

In 1999, it set up its EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) hub at Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport.
