Oasis School is a special school for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). This is an exciting new development and the opening of the school in September 2009 is Phase 1 of a long term project. Initially, the school will open with two classes, with four children in each class, i.e., one Reception Class and one Year 1 class. The children will be aged 5 - 7 years and the school will be open to boys and girls. In September 2010, at the beginning of Phase 2, there will be a new intake of children into the Reception Class and a new Nursery Class for 4 children will be added, extending the age range of children to 4 – 8 years. This will expand the number of children to 16. It is planned that the school will increase with a one class intake at Nursery Level for 5 years, finally catering for children with an age range of 4 - 11 years. In 2013 it is expected that the school will have 24 children on the roll. Oasis School will be the first school of its kind for children with ASDs in Pakistan. It is planned that through the development of Oasis School, over the period of 5 years, protocols will be developed to enable a larger school at Primary Level to be established and a Secondary Provision to be developed for September 2014. Oasis School aims to provide a high standard of education and to provide relevant therapies to enable each child to develop his or her full potential. This will be achieved by creating environments that maximise language, communication and learning for everyone. Oasis School will offer a curriculum that is differentiated to meet the needs of each individual child and that enables each child to develop socially, intellectually and physically. The school will promote a respectful and nurturing environment for both children and staff. The school is situated in a suburban area in the south of Lahore, Pakistan. This area has been substantially developed over the last ten years with new roads and good access to the city.
